The South Goa district police will mobile over 850 personnel for deployment for New Year eve celebrations in the district, including the main churches, places of tourist importance, including the beach belt.
Ahead of the deployment on Thursday night, the Costa grounds, Aquem played host to the weekly parade, wherein the men-in-uniform practiced marching, rifle exercise and handling of arms.
Around 122 police personnel, including a DySP, five PIs and other staff participated in the weekly parade. Fatorda police station in-charge PI Kapil Nayak commanded the parade, while SP South Pankaj Kumar Singh took the salute, conducted the inspection and addressed the staff.
SP Pankaj Singh later told The Goan that the police machinery has been geared up for the New Year eve celebrations in the entire district. “We will mobilize over 850 personnel for the patrolling of main churches, beach belt and will also man the intersections and traffic junctions to control traffic,” he added. The district police chief exuded confidence that the police force will ensure that nothing untoward happens in the district and the traffic is controlled.
Police patrolling was noticed at the major points leading to Salcete coastal belt on Wednesday evening. Salcete coastal belt, especially the world-famous Colva beach, is witnessing huge crowds of domestic tourists. Police anticipate that the situation will persist for the next two days.
