The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday staged a Jan Aakrosh Morcha to the residence of Power Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar, protesting inflated electricity bills and heavy penalties imposed on consumers across Goa.
Led by State president Valmiki Naik, other party leaders and supporters, the group marched with a memorandum demanding waiver of penalties and a three‑month window for consumers to apply for increased sanctioned load.
The party accused the BJP government of using the Electricity Department as an “extortion machine” by levying fines, inflating bills, and forcing smart meters on households.
“This is loot of the common people,” the party said.
The AAP protesters were stopped by police from reaching Dhavalikar’s residence. AAP leaders later offered prayers at Shri Nagesh Temple, asking for “wisdom” for the government and the minister to provide relief to consumers.
The party condemned the police action as an attempt to suppress dissent.
AAP’s Ponda leader, Geetesh Naik said they had only intended to submit a memorandum but were met with massive police deployment.
