A beach town situated in the north of Goa, Anjuna became the hide out for many Western hippies arriving in the 60's. After running out of money but not wanting to leave the state, these travelers sold as well as bartered their possessions including clothes, guitars, jewellery, art, music and more. Strategically situated on the sandy stretch overlooking the Arabian Sea, the vast and bustling market which occurs every Wednesday during the peak season takes up the entire stretch of the beach. The market contains anything and everything that could have been auctioned by merchants and gypsies. There are a variety of spices, tea. Coffee, hand-made toys, souvenirs and much more. After dropping dead once the shopping ceases, head to the chai stalls and a couple of restaurant-bars with live music and enjoy fabulous sunset beachfront locations. The market is held at Anjuna Beach in North Goa, 5 kms from Baga Beach. Being a popular tourist spot, Anjuna enjoys road connectivity. The best time to get here is around 6 pm, when you find the action at this informal market really going. The first market of the season is around mid-November and continues upto the end of April.
