NGOs not a threat to MPT, they
are watchdogs: MPT Chairman
VASCO: Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) Chairman Dr E Ramesh Kumar on Wednesday clarified that NGOs were not a threat to MPT but were doing their jobs as watchdogs which would help MPT to improve for the benefit of Goa.
"MPT is the largest PSU in the State and will continue to remain so. I do not see NGOs or the questions raised as a threat to MPT. The NGOs are only doing their job as watchdogs and it only helps us to be on our toes to better ourselves and do good for the State,” said Dr Kumar.
The MPT chairman also said while efforts were on to bring in additional cargo, MPT had always operated under the consent allowed by the Goa State Pollution Control board (GSPCB).
“As far as coal handling issue and the CM’s statement are concerned, I cannot comment but from our side, we are making efforts to encourage all types of cargo. The MPT always works within rules and regulations laid by the GSPCB authorities," said Dr Kumar.
