Diwali is just around the corner. Gifts shall be given and received. While you may not be (always) able to control what you get, you can make someone’s day by giving them a gift that’s really different from the usual box of chocolates or mithai. And we’ll help you find one!
Gift Vouchers
We know what you’re thinking! And no, it’s not the usualgift voucher you would get. These are the electronic variety. From Amazon.comto Flipkart.com, all major e-commerce sites will offer a gift voucher.
Ranging from Rs 25 to Rs 10,000, flipkart.com is a goodoption for a gift to anyone. Now that the site offers just about everythingunder the sun, you don’t have to worry if the recipient of your gift will beable to find something they want. Just visithttp://www.flipkart.com/buy-gift-voucher and gift away.
Amazon.com is another great option, but given that theydon’t deliver within India too well yet, you would be better off gifting booksto Kindle users. Sounds complicated, but it isn’t! Just find the book you wantto gift on the site and choose the “Gift” option from the right hand side. Andthen pay!
Non geek gifts!
Tech gifts don’t have to be for geeks only. There are someexciting items to gift to the non-geek as well! Fitness accessories, homeelectronics and a host of other items. You could either use one of the bige-commerce sites or visit a real store. Here are some suggestions:
Boomboxes & Audio Players
Known brands including Philips and Sony offer MP3-capable(through USB) devices that are a great gift item. Starting at about Rs 2,500and going up to, well, a lot, these are nice gifts for the music lover whoisn’t a stickler for the audio quality!
More specifically, at just Rs 1,200 comes the Scoscheportable mini speaker. With one USB port and 7-hour battery backup, this isperfect for those who like to take their music with them.
Computer Accessories
Admittedly, this is a bit of grey area (geek or not?) but wethink that everyone needs computer accessories. Even basic accessories like theSeagate 1 TB external hard drive (Rs 4,990) or a laptop cooling pad by CoolerMaster (the Notepal L1 for Rs 895) are great gifts.
For the up and coming geeks!
Let’s face it: every kid that aspires to be a geek (yes, there are kids who know the value of being a geek!) has a gaming console. Sowhy not just give them a game? You don’t have to give them a violent game orone that endears speed to them… pick a fun game with music and dance or sport(FIFA 13 starts at Rs 1,499 for the PC version). And if you do know yourrecipient well enough to know what they really want to add to their gamingrepertoire, choose from controls or extra joysticks or just covers for theiraccessories (range Rs 599 to Rs 2,500). Trust us, they will remember you andthe gift for a long time to come.
So why not change it up and do something really differentthis year? Cut the calories, get a real smile and give a gift that lasts (well, until the next version, anyways!).
Happy Diwali! (And if you are feeling generous, you knowwhere to send our gifts)
