The State government has initiated the process of installing a new power transmission line which will run through nine villages in Bardez in bid to augment power supply to North Goa.
The electricity department through a gazette notification has informed that a 220 KV double circuit transmission line will be constructed from the 400/220 KV Power Grid sub-station at Colvale to the proposed 220/33 KV sub-station at Saligao.
The Executive Engineer (Div IX) Ramdas Salelkar told The Goan that it will be a totally new 220 km long double circuit transmission line which entails setting up 72 towers en route from Colvale sub-station to Saligao sub-station.
“The entire project of constructing the double circuit transmission line and setting up of new sub-station at Saligao costing around Rs 334 crore has been tendered to Aravinda Electricals a Bangalore-based company,” Salelkar said.
He said it was a big sub-station and once commissioned will help boost power supply to Panaji, Ponda, Bicholim and the coastal belt in Bardez.
“The new Saligao sub-station will remove 60 percent of the load from the Tivim sub-station. It will resolve almost most of the power problems of North Goa,” he said.
The 220 KV double circuit transmission line is expected to pass through the following nine villages in Bardez -- Colvale, Tivim, Moira, Bastora, Guirim, Parra, Nagoa, Calangute and Saligao.
Local residents are asked to contact the Executive Engineer (Div IX), Volvonem, Tivim to find out if their properties are lying along the routes of the said transmission line.
