The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has acknowledged Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao's appeal to Catholic population to cast votes in favour of candidates with secular credentials, affirming the party stands for inclusive and secular India.

BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade and spokesperson Giriraj Pai Vernekar reiterated the party's commitment to the principle of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’.

"We endorse this sentiment... Furthermore, we have also been urging citizens not to go on a holiday on the voting day but to actively participate in the democratic process," Tanavade said speaking to The Goan.

Vernekar echoed Tanavade's sentiments, expressing the party's appreciation for Cardinal Ferrao's statement.

"People must ensure they cast their votes as it is our primary duty towards the nation. At the same time, the comments have asked people to reject forces that divide people on the basis of caste, creed, religion, and region. Only the BJP works towards the welfare of every Indian citizen with the motive of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas for a Viksit Bharat,” he said.

“The BJP works for 100 per cent saturation of schemes and believes in the concept of Antyodaya, which means benefits should reach the last person. This makes Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP the only option for people to vote for,” Vernekar added.

Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao, in a statement on Tuesday, had appealed to all eligible Catholic voters to exercise their franchise on May 7, 2024, casting their vote for persons with secular credentials, who are truly committed to work for the good of all the people and to uphold the values enshrined in our Constitution.
