Congress delegation led by Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa lodging a complaint with South SP Santosh Desai.
MARGAO
Raising concerns over remarks hurting the sentiments of the Christian community, Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa asked Superintendent of Police, South Goa Santosh Desai how a peace-loving community is expected to respond to repeated provocative statements targeting their religious beliefs.
He emphasised that members of the Christian community are equal citizens of the country and should not feel marginalised.
Leading the Congress delegation to the SP, South to lodge a complaint against Gautam Khattar, the MLA alleged that the minority community is being unfairly targeted, attributing the situation to inaction by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government. He pointed to a previous incident involving derogatory remarks against St Francis Xavier, claiming that delayed action had emboldened others.
Referring to recent controversial statements by Gautam Khattar, D’Costa warned of a pattern in which individuals continue to make inflammatory remarks without fear of consequences. “Are Christians not Goans and citizens of this country? Why are their sentiments being hurt repeatedly?” he asked.
