Goa Police have initiated contact with Google to block access to pornographic websites, which were used by the Kenyan traffickers to attract customers as significant steps are being taken to solve the international ring that exploited the Goan soil for illegal activities.
Police sources said that the investigating team is also awaiting a response from the local magistrate to approve their request for recording statements of the five rescued women currently housed in the State Protective Home.
“We have already informed Google to promptly block the escort websites that were used to solicit clients. We have also frozen bank accounts of the accused persons where money from online payments was deposited,” the official told The Goan.
The operation, led by the Anjuna police and NGO ARZ clamped down on the international sex trafficking racket that preyed on young, educated Kenyan women. As per initial details, these women were promised jobs in the hospitality industry by agents representing traffickers based in Goa.
The victims, in their statements to the police, revealed that on being brought to India, the traffickers seized their passports and visas, forcing them into prostitution under threats of violence and imposing debts ranging from Rs 5-8 lakh. These statements will now be recorded under section 164 of the CrPC before the magistrate, followed by the necessary repatriation procedure.
Maria Dorcas and Wilkista who primarily operated online, exploiting escort websites to solicit clients, are behind bars.
