Mumbai Dabbawalas, famous for their food supply network,visited the campus of Career Business School to share their six sigma standardof delivering Tiffin boxes across Mumbai with the students and the facultymembers of the institute.
The Dabbawalas shared their secret of delivering 2 lakhdabbas on time with an accuracy rate of 99.99% with 100% customer satisfaction.This is the perfect example of excellent supply chain and logistics management.
The corporate ideals of teamwork, dedication and accuracywere reflected with a whole new perspective for these students as Pawan GAgarwal, Director of the Mumbai Dabbawala Education Centre elaborated on thecomplexities involved in the life of a Mumbai Dabbawala to them.
“Consistency is the key to ensure a meticulous network withan error rate of just one in 16 million transactions. At the end of the dayit’s just effective team work. The Dabbawalas do not have any time to wastewhile on duty and the main objective is customer satisfaction when the deliveryis made,” Pawan G Agarwal said.
As per the management structure of the Dabbawalas, theoldest member is appointed as team leader, with more than 10 members under him,whom he will have to motivate.
“Any internal issue that crops up among the Dabbawalas aresorted out without affecting the overall efficiency," Agarwal added.
