Navelim Congress candidate Avertano Furtado on Wednesday appealed to Navelkars not to fall prey to false propaganda spread by his rival candidates that he would switch parties once getting elected in the ensuing polls.
The Congress has also demanded apology from Aam Aadmi Party candidate Pratima Coutinho within 24 hours failing which he has threatened to sue her for defamation.
Addressing the media in the presence of his lawyer, Adv Byron Rodrigues, Avertano promised the people that he will never join the BJP or any other party after getting elected on the Congress banner. I request to the people of Navelim not to fall prey to the false propaganda. I promise that I will stay loyal to the Congress after my election,” he said.
Accusing the rival candidates for spreading false rumours, Avertano said, “AAP candidate has already accepted defeat when she alleged that I will be made the Sports Minister in the BJP government. She is blind to the development ushered by me in the constituency. By making the allegation, she has conceded defeat.”
Avertano’s lawyer, Adv Byron Rodrigues said the Congress candidate has already filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India, besides the Margao police for the false and malicious reports on the social media that Avertano has met Amit Shah.
“The Congress candidate is giving Pratima 24 hours to tender an apology, failing which my client will serve a defamation notice and initiate further proceedings,” Byron warned.
