The Goencho Ekvott submitted a memorandum to scrap land acquisition and to withdraw the notice of office of land acquisition officer for the special project of Hospet-Hubli-Tinaighat-Vasco-da-Gama track doubling.
A Goencho Ekvott delegation submitted the memorandum to the Mormugao deputy collector on Thursday.
In a press release, GE convenor Creson Antao said Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate must direct the deputy collector, who is the land acquisition officer, to stop the proceedings to acquire land for doubling of track.
GE Joint Secretary Olencio Simoes said Goa is a state and not Union territory and therefore, has its own process to acquire land for state or central projects.
“SWR is continuously violating all laws and has made mockery of the present government and people of Goa, as the Ministry of Railways (South Western Railway Construction Organisation), vide its notification for the special project, namely Hospet-Hubli-Tinaighat-Vasco-da-Gama doubling in Goa should have been under the The Goa Compensation to the Project and Vesting of Land in the Government bill, 2017,” said Simoes.
