Police have registered a case of unnatural death after the body of a 19-year-old youth was found hanging at an under-construction site in the coastal village of Anjuna.
Police suspect it as a case of suicide even as the family of the youth refused permission to carry out an autopsy on the body, suspecting foul play.
The deceased has been identified as Arbaz Ali Shaikh, a resident of Freitaswado in Verla and native of West Bengal.
According to Anjuna Police, they received information about the hanging body at around 12.40 pm on Saturday after which police rushed to the spot, conducted panchanama and shifted the body to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
Police sources informed that the family of the deceased refused to sign documents to undertake autopsy as the family suspected it to be a case of foul play.
The body has been preserved in the Morgue at GMC.
The deceased had some injury marks on the body but police suspect they were self-inflicted injuries.
“The exact cause of death can be ascertained only after conducting an autopsy,” a senior police official said.
Anjuna Police have registered an offence under section 174 of the CrPC.
