Union minister Goyal calls off his address at event in view of Odisha train tragedy

The Startup20 Engagement Group of the G20’s third meeting “Goa Sankalpana” on Saturday saw Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal calling off his address in view of the tragic Odisha train accident. Goyal arrived in Goa on Friday to inaugurate the event that commenced at a resort on Saturday.
A little before the inaugural, the organisers informed the media that Goyal “was in favour of cancelling the meeting today (Saturday).” However, owing to the fact that international delegates from various G20 countries had already assembled, the Startup20 meeting went ahead as scheduled.
Various related issues were deliberated during the meeting that concludes on Sunday. In his address, Chair of Startup20 Engagement Group Chintan Vaishnav called upon the G20 nations to actively contribute their expertise, insights, and recommendations to help finalise the Policy Communiqué.
“The Communiqué represents the culmination of extensive consultations and collaborative efforts by all stakeholders involved. I urged the G20 nations to actively contribute their expertise, insights, and recommendations to help finalise the Communiqué, ensuring that it becomes a robust framework that drives the growth and success of startups across the globe,” he said.
Vaishnav further emphasised the importance of collective wisdom and the shared responsibility of shaping policies that will set the benchmark for the future of the global startup ecosystem.
Various Task Forces responsible for shaping the Policy Communiqué also presented their recommendations with Professor Srivardhini Jha – leading the Foundation Taskforce – sharing a Startup Definition Framework.
Around 250 national and international delegates took part on the first day of the event wherein 40-odd Startups from across the country showcased their innovative products.
