Speaking to media persons, D’Souza informed, “We had appointed Shinde as an administrator of GMC. He has recently been transferred. He has already worked out a model for providing autonomy to GMC.”
However, stating that the appointment of a new administrator in Shinde’s place has been delayed due to the BRICS summit, the Deputy Chief Minister stated that a new officer would soon be appointed.
The State Government in May this year, had appointed Shinde as the administrator for looking into the various problems plaguing GMC. Additionally, the State Government had also appointed former South Goa Collector ND Agrawal to prepare a detailed inquiry report with regard to the complaints and issues existing in GMC. He has already submitted a 400-page detailed report on the same.
When asked if any action would be initiated on the findings of the report, D’Souza said, “Report has to be examined by the department and then put to the State Government. First we have to correct the mistakes, then we have to go ahead with the recovery from those who have misused GMC. The efficiency in the working too has also been pointed out in the report.”
Pointing out that GMC is overloaded, D’Souza stated, “Though GMC is a 190-bedded hospital, presently there are 220 patients being treated.”
Meanwhile, the Centre has sanctioned Rs 33 crore for a 100-bedded centre of excellence at the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB), Bambolim.
