The infrastructure at the State’s premier medical institute,Goa Medical College will receive a major fillip with the installation of newcardiac CT scanner, digital X-ray, France technology bio-medical waste disposalplant and ventilators all amounting to Rs 12.5 crore.
All these facilities will be inaugurated on the birthday ofChief Minister, Manohar Parrikar on December 13.
Health Minister, Laxmikant Parsekar while addressing themedia informed that government invested nearly Rs 12.5 crore to modernize thefacility at GMC.
Rs 5 crore of the amount was funded by the Union governmentof India.
He said the new cardiac CT scan and digital X-ray would beinstalled in the newly established diagnostic center, while the old CT scannerwould be shifted to the casualty ward.
The new eight-bedded intensive care unit will have 21ventilators in near future, the health minister said.
With the installation of the new scanner, the number ofscanning is expected to rise by nearly 100 people per day. Around 70 scans weredone per day using the old machine.
Parrikar will also inaugurate a new state-of-the-art Francetechnology bio-medical waste disposal plant that would treat nearly 800 kgmedical waste as GMC alone generates nearly 600 kg medical waste per day.
