Goa Doot win; ToI, Navhind get walkover

The Vijay Gad Trophy inter-media cricket tournament began on Monday at SAG ground, Campal in the city.

The first match was supposed to be played between Times of India and All India Radio (A.I.R) at 9.30 am. However, A.I.R did not report for the match. In accordance with the laws of the tournament, the match officials awarded a walkover to Times of India.

The second match of the day was held as per schedule. Prudent took on Goa Doot in the afternoon. Goa Doot won the toss and batted first. They scored 113/5 in the allotted 10 overs. Opening the innings, Vipul Pawar was the top-scorer with 64 runs off 29 balls. He hit one sixer and 11 fours. Amar Pawar played a good supporting role at the other end. He scored 32 runs off 22 balls. Prudent’s Hanuman Bhosle picked up three wickets.  
In reply, Prudent came very close to the target but fell short of Goa Doot’s total by just four runs. Saish Kerkar was the highest scorer for Prudent as he remained not out with 57 runs off 34 balls. Saish hit 10 fours in his strokeful half-century. Sachin Surlikar also played well, making 21 runs off 16 balls. He 
hit two fours.  
The last match of the day was to be held between Navhind Publications and Gomantak. However, Gomantak failed to field a team and Navhind were awarded a walkover by the match officials.
