PANAJI: Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai today informed the State Legislative Assembly that Goa will complete the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 implementation by 2030.
Addressing the House on the opening day of the two-day-long winter session, the Governor stated that the implementation of NEP across all grades will be completed by 2027-28 and the next two years will focus on cluster formation and restructuring of educational institutions where necessary so as to complete NEP implementation by 2030.
Governor Pillai stated that Goa is the first state to constitute the Goa State School Standards Assessment and Accreditation Authority to ensure the full potential of the NEP is realized.
The Governor further highlighted that in the year 2024-25, the implementation of NEP-2020 will continue with the introduction of Balvatika–II in the Foundational Stage and Grade IX in the Secondary stage.
The Governor said that Goa is also aiming to become the first state to implement a complete e-governance solution for the entire education system, covering primary to higher education, on a unified platform.
Announcing the introduction of the CM Suvidya Scheme to upgrade infrastructure and develop a productive academic environment, the Governor said that 20 schools have been selected under the District Mineral Foundation to set up smart classrooms, advanced digital infrastructure, and other facilities, while 20 other government schools have been chosen under Corporate Social Responsibility for the establishment of STEM labs.
All 87 government high schools and nine higher secondary schools have been provided with 30 tablets preloaded with skill-building software, he added.
For teacher capacity building, the PM e-VIDYA cell conducted 12 training sessions for more than 800 identified content creators teaching students from Class I to Class XII.
Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) Goa has implemented initiatives that positively impact students and teachers. The PARAKH weekly practice bot reached 98,861 students from 897 schools, with an average score of 57%. VSK has also developed the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) to help school heads track the status of APAAR ID generation.
Governor Pillai also noted that 25 schools in Goa have been selected for the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India Scheme (PM SHRI). The Mid Day Meal scheme has benefited 154,914 students from Std. I to VIII, with an expenditure of Rs. 20.44 crore in the current financial year.
