Goa University (GU) has once again fallen short in the Union Education Ministry's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, failing to secure a place in the top 100 for the third consecutive year.

The university's ranking has dropped from 101 in 2023 to a position within the 151-200 band this year.

In fact, no institution from Goa including the National Institute of Technology (NIT) which ranked 90th in the engineering category last year, made it into the top 100.

Goa University, which fell from the top 100 in 2021 to the 101-200 band in 2022, retained the position in 2023 before slipping further into one of the lowest rank-band this year. There has been no official statement from GU though Vice-Chancellor Harilal Menon had last year stated that they will review its score.

In the management category, the Goa Institute of Management (GIM) in Sanquelim ranked 37th with a score of 55.67 percent, while the Goa College of Pharmacy secured 93rd place in the pharmacy category with 40.69 percent. Last year, GIM Sanquelim was placed 33rd, following a ranking of 36th the preceding year. It remains the only institution in Goa to feature in the top 50 B-schools.

In the college category, Ponda Education Society’s Shri Ravi S Naik College of Arts and Science and Dempo Charities Trust's Dhempe College of Arts & Science ranked within the 151-200 band.

The Government College of Arts Science & Commerce in Sanquelim, Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts & Science (Autonomous), St Xavier's College of Arts Science & Commerce in Mapusa, and Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce, Education, Computer and Management, Vidyanagar, fell into the 201-300 band. The Ponda Education Society held the same rank last year, having been in the 101-150 bracket in 2022.

Institutions participating in the NIRF are evaluated across various parameters, including teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.
