Goan lad cracks UPSC examination, joins National Defence Academy

Blythe Luis Dias qualified the All-India written examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) held in Nov 2019. He has now joined National Defence Academy (NDA), the joint services academy of the Indian Armed Forces Pune, for a three-year training which started from Oct 2020. This will be followed by further professional training in the academics of the Army, Navy and Air Force before being commissioned as an officer of the Armed Forces by the President of India.

The process to join NDA involves candidates answering the UPSC written examination, after which the successful candidates are called for Service Selection Board (SSB) interview based on their marks. The SSB is an organization that assesses the candidates for becoming officers into the Indian Armed Forces. This is a 5 to 6 days evaluation process which constitutes of personality, intelligence tests and interviews.

The candidates are then shortlisted for a medical examination wherein the merit list of candidates is prepared based on the written exam and SSB interview. The whole process takes about 5 to 6 months from answering the exam till the finalization of merit list to join NDA.

He is an ALUMNUS of the prestigious Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) at Dehra Dun, an Institution of National importance providing quality education to young boys from Class VIII to Class XII (CBSE) preparing them to become Military Leaders. RIMC traces its origin to the Prince of Wales Royal Indian Military College, inaugurated on March 13, 1922, by his Royal Highness, King Edward VIII, the Prince of Wales.

He joined RIMC in July 2015 (Class VIII) through a written examination held by UPSC which selects one child per state. He passed with distinction in May 2020 (Class XII) being the first Goan. He is the son of Group Captain Bolivar MCF Cardozo Dias and Melvina D’Souza Dias and brother of Master Blaine Dias presently residing at Vasco-da-Gama.
