MARGAO: The Goa Pradesh Youth Congress (GPYC) workers on Wednesday took to the streets of Margao demanding immediate completion of the South Goa district hospital and resignation of Health Minister Francis D’Souza on moral grounds.

Led by GPYC President Xavier Fialho, the workers assembled in front of the district hospital under construction and raised slogans against the government for dilly-dallying in completing the prestigious project taken up during the Congress regime.

They accused the government for being insensitive to the health needs of the people from South Goa with Hospicio hospital down in the dumps with manpower and equipment shortage.

Addressing the media, the Youth Congress president said if the Health minister cannot complete the district hospital within six months, he should tender his resignation on moral grounds. “It’s now 87 months since the foundation stone for the prestigious health project was laid during the Congress rule, but work has either hit a block or is progressing at a snail’s pace. If the Health minister cannot complete the project within six months, he should quit office on moral grounds," he demanded.

Xavier recalled that Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on April 28, 2014 had promised to complete the district hospital within 18 months. He, however, added that it’s now 23 months, but there’s no sign of the early completion of the project.
