IPB meets next week to take call on projects

The Investment Promotion Board will meet next week to deliberate over approvals for the expansion or new manufacturing facilities in the state, five new hospitality projects as well as other matters including facilitation sought by companies and review of projects that have already been passed.

Among the four hotels seeking permissions to set up shop in the state include an ‘agro-eco tourism project at Shrishtal in Canacona on 1360 square metres out of a total land of nearly 90,000 square metres. The project proponent one Alkesh Desai, an engineer turned entrepreneur, seeks to offer tourists hands on experience in farming paddy, vegetables, cashews, etc besides other eco activities like biking, hiking, fishing, etc.

The project will be using only 1.68% of the total area and has promised not to build on no development slopes, paddy fields and instead offer the tourists a chance to live in mud huts, Goan style cottages as well as help them connect with Goan culture, heritage etc. The project will involve an investment of 15 crore and employment of 100 persons.

Another crucial proposal before the IPB is that for construction of a floating jetty for water sports activity at Reis Magos along with a four and a five star hotel all of which fall in settlement zone in the village by one Spark Healthline Pvt Ltd.

The investment promised is ₹324 crore with an employment potential of 3,000 people. Part of the land owned by this company has been offered to the Goa government for the tourism department’s ropeway project.

Besides this Adwalpalkar constructions has proposed to set up a 200 room hotel in Bambolim while Annapurna Savings and Finance Company seeks to set up a four star hotel at Anjuna in settlement zone while another hotel by Alagoa Resorts is proposed in Betalbatim for a 16 room eco resort.

A bulk of the proposals are for expansion of existing establishments within industrial estates including of Hindustan Coca Cola, Andrew Telecommunication, Watson Pharma, Alcon Cement, Varun Beverages, Crompton Greaves, Schiffer and Menezes India, etc.

Besides projects, the Board is seized with issues like that of delays in approvals for previously passed projects, status and approvals of its own rules, the state level committee on the ease of doing business, status of other policy decisions, online monitoring system for projects, etc.
