JK Tyre IndiKarting National Series moves to Goa for the second round

After a successful first round in Pune, the second round of JK Tyre IndiKarting National Series will take place in Goa from April 30–May 1 at the Goa Kart Racing track, Nuvem.

The latest karting series is aimed at further strengthening and broad-basing, JK Tyre’s philosophy of making karting even more accessible to young drivers. Karting is widely accepted the world over as the stepping stone for all forms circuit racing. The JK Tyre IndiKarting National Series, organized by RR Motorsports Management Pvt Ltd, will run a full calendar from April-June over five rounds in various cities.

Another important highlight of the JK Tyre IndiKarting National Series is the coming onboard of Tata Motors, one of the biggest automobile manufacturers in the country. This collaboration will establish unparalleled synergy between the conglomerates for the grassroots development of motorsports in India.

The unique aspect of the JK Tyre IndiKarting National Series is that it will feature single-make 4-stroke karts, which will not only ensure a level-playing field, but will also make it the most affordable karting championship in the world. This karting series is the latest link in the clear path to higher forms of single-

seater racing, up to F3 racing.

As such, the winners of the JK Tyre IndiKarting National Series will get a direct and sponsored drive in the JK Tyre National Rotax Max Karting Championship, which is the country’s only nationally recognized karting championship.

Apart from that, winners in the senior category will get opportunities to race with some of the leading teams in JK Tyre National Racing Championship.

JK Tyre is credited with introducing the concept of karting in India way back in 2000 when it launched the National Karting Championship with 4-stroke karts. In 2004, the championship took a major step forward with the introduction of Rotax two-stroke karts.

Today, the JK Tyre Rotax Max National Karting Championship is the only national karting championship in the country. Now, with the introduction of the latest four-stroke IndiKarting National Series, JK Tyre has further broad-based its karting programme that will benefit youngsters seeking to make a career in motorsports.

In a media interaction at a starred city hotel on Tuesday, the brain-child behind this National Motorsport Series, Rayomand Banajee of Rayo Racing had this to say. “Why we came to Goa and Nuvem (South Goa) is because it has one of the best tracks (496 mts) in India, and the way it is set-up with a nice ambience, with the racers loving it,” the former racer reasoned out. He says that with this track, there

have been a lot of locals showing enthusiasm, with Audumber Hede being a prime example who came through this track. While he stated there were a record 173 participants in Pune, he expects over 100 entries to come in for the Goa leg with already about 30 entries having come in from outstation.

Talking on the categories of participation he says, in all there are 10 which would include Pro Cadet for racers aged 7-12 years, Pro Junior for racers aged 12-16 years and Pro Senior for racers above 16 years of age.

In addition to these categories, he further stated to add that there would be seven classes of support races that will further broaden the appeal of the JK Tyre IndiKarting National Series. The support classes will include Senior Amateur, Interschool, Corporate (over 24 years), Masters (Age 32+), Women’s and Media.

Talking further, Banajee stated in the inaugural round of JK Tyre IndiKarting National Series, approved by FMSCI in Pune, Driver Aanjan Patodia won two races in the Pro Senior, Driver Aditya Joshi won two races in the Pro Junior and in the Pro Cadet there are three different winners with Driver Hoshmand Elavia in the lead.

Chris Moraes, co-owner of the Goa Kart Racing track where the event will take place this weekend in Goa said: "This is one of the oldest tracks in the country which has been in existence since the last 16 years and we have played host to many championships which include that of JK Tyres, MRF, India’s 24-hour Karting Championship (2008) and the Regional and Final Round of the Force India Programme.”

The Round 2 to take place in Goa at the Goa Karting Track at Nuvem, on April 30 will have the registration starting at 10.30am and races begin by noon which would continue until 8.30 pm. On May 1, races will resume in the morning and will continue through the evening with the final races after 5 pm.

The prize money for the Goa-leg in the Pro Category will have Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 for the top three split among the three races.

Whoever wins the Pro Category at the National Final will win Rs 11 lakh worth of sponsorship wherein the Support Category winner at the National Final will win a sponsored drive for the Pro Category the following year valued at Rs 4 lakh.

Banajee, had to also say that with the idea of motorsport becoming elite, with the introduction of JK Tyre IndiKarting National Series, they have endeavoured to make it more acceptable.

While the entry fee is a reasonable Rs 1,770, the women’s class (over 15 years) Rs 1,000.
