In a significant move toward establishing a Kannada Bhavan in Goa, the Karnataka government has taken a major step by purchasing private land in the State. The project will be funded through the Karnataka Border Area Development Authority's grant.

A meeting was held at the Verna Junction along the NH66 highway on Wednesday, which was chaired by Somanna Bevinmarad, President of the Karnataka Border Area Development Authority, Bengaluru, and attended by Prakash Mattihalli from the same authority.

The meeting was also attended by Siddanna Metti (Kannada Sahitya Parishat), Goa Gadinaadu Group, Hanumant Reddy Shirur, Tavarappa, Rajesh Shetty, Tadiwal, Shivanand Bingi, and heads/members of other pro-Kannada organisations in Goa.

The announcement to build a Kannada Bhavan in Goa was made in the 2022–23 state budget.

For more than 6 lakh Kannada-speaking population in Goa, the demand for such a facility has been ongoing for the past 40 years.

Responding to these longstanding appeals, the Karnataka government has now purchased private land to begin construction of the Kannada Bhavan in Goa, thus fulfilling a long-pending aspiration of Kannada speakers in the border region.
