The Congress on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Ramesh Tawadkar demanding a probe into the lost Assembly records and to constitute a House Committee to investigate the real intention of the CM’s statement claiming lost records.
The Congress party also urged the Speaker to file a complaint before a competent authority to hold an inquiry in the matter.
“The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recently said that the Assembly records from 1963 to 2000 were lost during shifting of the Assembly records from the old Assembly housed at Adil Shah’s Place to the new Assembly complex at Porvorim. It is pertinent to do the fact-finding on the exact intention of the CM who held the position of the Speaker from 2017 to 2019,” the memorandum said.
“There are apprehensions in the minds of citizens on the safety and security of the Assembly proceeding records which are of paramount importance for posterity. There is fear in minds of the people that the Assembly records may be destroyed in an attempt to twist the historical milestones of the State,” it added.
The memorandum was signed by all the eleven Congress MLAs and handed over to the Speaker by Deputy CLP Leader Sankalp Amonkar, Working President Yuri Alemao and Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa.
The Congress further said that they came to know through some media reports that the Legislative Secretary and thereafter the Speaker have refuted the claim made by the Chief Minister.
“There is no official statement from the office of the Chief Minister on the clarifications issued by the Legislature Secretary and the Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly,” the memorandum read.
The Congress MLAs appealed to the Speaker to constitute a House Committee giving equal representation to all the Members of the Legislative Assembly to investigate the real intention behind the statement of the Chief Minister and further urged him to file a complaint before the appropriate competent authority to start an inquiry on the same.
The Congress has also said that it will raise the issue in the upcoming Assembly session.
