MAPUSA

Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has decided to shift all stalls selling firecrackers to the space which was earlier occupied by interstate buses opposite the taxi stand for the period of Chaturthi festival.
"All fireworks stalls will be shifted to the space opposite the taxi-stand for period of 15 days, four days before Ganesh Chathurthi from August 21 to September 4," said Clen Madeira, MMC Chief Officer in a public notice issued in a local daily. It may be recalled the MMC in one of its council meeting last year had resolved to shift stalls selling firecrackers to the space occupied by interstate buses.
The civic body has also directed the shopkeepers in the municipal market not to store or sell any firecrackers or explosive items in the shops during the Ganesh festival.
"All shopkeepers/vendors in the municipal market are directed not sell, store or stockpile firecrackers as well as explosive items during the Ganesh festival," the chief officer said.
The Mapusa Municipal Council has urged all vendors to get necessary permissions and NOCs from various departments like district magistrate and fire department before approaching the civic body for permission to erect the stalls.
