n Pact with BJP limited to forming govt n No plans to contest Panaji, Valpoi by-polls
PANAJIrStating that the coalition with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is limited merely to forming the government in the interest of the State, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) President Deepak Dhavalikar said that the Party will re-start their work even in the constituencies represented by BJP. rHe was speaking after MGP’s first central committee meeting post the State Legislative Assembly elections. r“MGP will begin its work independently across all constituencies in the State. Prior to elections, we had called off our alliance with BJP. We have formed the government to give stability to the State under the leadership of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. This does not mean that we will not spread our wings in constituencies represented by the BJP. We will definitely work in constituencies like Bicholim which is our stronghold. Our coalition is limited to forming the government. It does not make any difference to the Party”, he stated. r“We have started with all our work to get back all the four constituencies in Ponda. After Ganesh Chaturthi we will widen our scope in Ponda, Pernem and Bicholim”, he said. rMGP’s central committee also resolved not to contest the upcoming by-polls in Panaji and Valpoi. r“We held a discussion on whether to contest the two vacant seats of Panaji and Valpoi during the by-polls. But then to strengthen our coalition government further, we have resolved not to contest these two seats. However, if any vacancies are created in this assembly, then MGP will definitely look at contesting those”, he said. rAs far as the elections for the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Goa are concerned, MGP has decided to support the BJP’s candidate. r“We have resolved to empower our three elected MLAs to support the RS member. We will support the BJP candidate”, he said. rWhen questioned whether MGP has demanded any corporations to their Party members, Dhavalikar said, “We have already held a discussion with CM. We have expressed our views to our minister Sudin Dhavalikar who has put it forth to CM who has promised us to give a few corporations.”
