Minister to release pending fishing subsidies in 8 days

Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar along with MLA Jit Arolkar, Sarpanch Amit Sawant and others while interacting with the fishing community in Mandrem constituency.

Fisheries minister Nilkanth Halarnkar on Tuesday assured to address the grievances of the fishing community in Mandrem constituency, adding that pending subsidies would be released within eight days.

He also suggested to the community to add an allied source of income to their traditional vocation of fishing such as setting up an ice plant in the area.

The minister along with the local MLA Jit Arolkar, local Sarpanch Amit Sawant and members from the fishing community discussed issues at a meeting in Ashwem, Mandrem and Keri.

The minister visited the coastal areas of Mandrem and interacted with the fishermen. He also visited the fish market and announced that a new fish market with all facilities would be constructed here at the cost of Rs 1 crore.

The fishing leaders complained about the limited space for docking their boats and added that fuel subsidy which was being offered by the government had not been released for the past two years, which is a cause of concern.

Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar also assured the fishing community that their issues would be resolved by the government soon. He also welcomed the plan of constructing a veterinary hospital in Mandrem.
