Monica Dias passes away at 69 after a brief illness

Chairperson of the Khadi & Village Industries Board and former Margao Municipal Chairperson Monica Dias passed away at a Mumbai-based hospital on Monday evening due to heart complications.

She was 69 and is survived by husband Felix, two sons Carlton and Dylon and daughter Mizelta.
Monica had undergone complex heart surgeries, including replacement of the heart valve at the hospital on Monday noon and is believed to have breathed her last in the evening due to complications.
A dedicated social worker, Monica was into politics for over three decades and was a known political figure having donned the mantle as the Chairperson of the Margao Municipal Council and had presided over the affairs of the Mahila Congress for a considerable time.
A three-time councilor, Monica made her entry into Municipal politics in the mid 80s when she was elected the Councilor in the year 1985. She later rose to become the Chairperson of the Civic body in the year 1998.
She served the Indian National Congress in various capacities including President of the Goa Mahila Congress and General Secretary of the All India Mahila Congress before joining the Goa Forward Party in December 2016. She had been appointed Chairperson of Goa Khadi & Village Industries Board for a second time just a week ago.
Meanwhile, the Goa Forward Party has deeply condoled the death of its Senior Vice President Monica Dias, who expired in after a brief illness.
GFP General Secretary Mohandas Loliencar said that, in Monica Dias's death, the party has suffered an irreplaceable loss, and that Goa had lost an outstanding lady politician who distinguished herself on the state political scene over the last 30 years and more.
In the meantime, the Convenor of the Shadow Council of Margao and former MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho has condoled the death of Monica Dias, saying her contributions in the social field will be long remembered by the people.
