Mother tongue should be medium of instruction in primary schools: CM

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that the medium of instruction at the primary school level should be in the mother tongue of children, even as he said that efforts should be made to make students knowledgeable and cultured.

The Chief Minister appealed all teachers to play a vitalrole in enriching students in the mother tongue as the medium of instruction.Parrikar was speaking in a function at Kala Academy organized to felicitate teacherson the occasion of Teacher’s Day.

“The Director of Education should deal with the administrationand teachers should try and provide quality education… but everybody is verycareless about their responsibilities,” the CM said. He also said moreattention of the teachers is on salary-related issues, which is the reason why thereis negligence over the academy. He informed the gathering that all the issuesof the teachers will be tackled within a year’s time. “By next academic yearfabulous changes will be carried out in the administration of the education department,”the CM said.
