MAPUSA
It’s a unique protest of opposition parties led by Congress where they intend to consign an effigy of ‘Amdarchorasur’ to flames to highlight the poaching of the MLAs by the BJP.
‘Amdarchorasur’ will be burnt in broad daylight at 11 am on October 23 near the Bodgeshwar temple in Mapusa.
Congress leader Vijay Bhike said that Goa has seen the naked display of arrogance by the ruling BJP which has stolen MLAs of Congress to push their agenda forward.
“The BJP thinks they can do anything and get away with it. They stole 10 MLAs in the previous term in 2017-22 and have done the same now. Power has gone into their heads,” Bhike said.
The Congress leader was addressing a news conference in Mapusa along with Goa Forward Party leader Durgadas Kamat, State Shiv Sena president Jitesh Kamat, Congress spokesman Sanjay Barde and Mapusa citizens including Jawaharlal Shetye, Yogesh Kelkar, Sudesh Tivrekar and others.
Speaking further, Bhike exhorted all right-thinking citizens to join them in the symbolic protest against the unholy act where the ruling party was using all means to destroy democracy.
“People should come and take part in this event to register their protest against such corrupt activities. The MLAs were elected by the people in one party but within months they switched sides. This should not happen. If any MLA wants to crossover, then he or she should resign and re-contest,” he said.
Goa Forward Party leader Durgadas Kamat alleged corruption was taking place at every level of the government and the money accumulated through illegal means was used to buy off MLAs.
“With the numbers on their side, they want to bulldoze the constitution and the law of the land. There is a real danger to democracy. It's time people raise their voice,” Kamat said.
According to Shiv Sena chief Jitesh Kamat, the BJP wanted to eliminate the opposition by using the ED, CBI and I-T departments against those who oppose them.
Several other leaders also spoke.
