In a bid to curb road mishaps in its jurisdiction, the Penha de Franca panchayat has installed convex mirrors at strategic locations along the internal roads of the village.
Speaking to The Goan, Penha de Franca Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar said several vehicle accidents have been reported at various road junctions in the village.
“Keeping in mind traffic safety, the panchayat decided to install convex mirrors along internal roads of the village using panchayat funds.”
“The process to install the first lot of 30 convex mirrors is going on in the village at the moment and later, 30 more convex mirrors will be installed. The total cost of these convex mirrors is around Rs 4.44 lakh. With the installation of these convex mirrors, we expect a reduction in vehicle accidents on internal roads of our village,” Chodankar.
Chodankar also mentioned that work to install 70 CCTV cameras is also in progress in consultation with the Porvorim police station.
“After installation of CCTV cameras, it will be easier for the police to detect crimes,” said Chodankar.
