In a bid to bolster security and instil confidence among visitors, a police assistance booth has been inaugurated at the entrance of the bustling Mapusa market.
The booth, which was officially set up on Thursday, is a collaborative effort between the Goa Jewellers Association, the Goa Police, and the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC).
The booth will be manned by an armed police officer throughout the day, ensuring a quick response to any incidents that may occur in the market. The officer stationed at the booth will work in close coordination with the Mapusa police station to address any potential threats or criminal activities.
MMC Chairperson Nutan Bicholkar emphasised the importance of the new police booth, citing an increase in daytime robberies in the market.
"When members of the jewellers association approached us for space, we readily agreed. A police booth will significantly contribute to maintaining security in this prime market area," Bicholkar stated.
Mapusa Police Inspector Nikhil Palekar expressed optimism about the booth's impact on market safety. "The presence of police at the main entry point will instil a sense of security among market-goers. Any suspicious activity can now be immediately reported at the booth," Palekar explained.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including Market Chairman Sainath Raul, President of the Goa Jewellers Association Sameer Kudtarkar, and other dignitaries.
The establishment of the police booth is seen as a proactive measure to ensure the safety and security of both vendors and visitors in one of Goa's most popular market areas.
