Chennai’s Ranganathan Chakravarthy emerged the champion amidst a highly competitive field of 43 wordsmiths from across the country at the two-day 13th All India Open Scrabble Tournament organised by the Scrabble Association of Goa that concluded at PCCE College, Verna on Sunday. The top 10 prize winners are as follows: 1. Ranganathan Chakravarthy (Chennai, 11 points, +1288), 2. Mohan Chunkath (Chennai, 11, +533), 3. Varisht Hingorani (Mumbai, 10, +1028), 4. Nakul Prabhu (Mumbai, 10, +721), 5. Udayan Grover (Pune, 10, +682), 6. Shaik Ahmed, Hyderabad, 10, +290), 7. Charles Carneiro (Delhi, 9, +831), 8. Pramit Kamath (Delhi, 9, +658), 9. Carolann Pais (Mumbai, 9, +551), 10. Sudhir Kamath (Delhi, 9, +392). Interestingly, the top six have all been the tourney winner at least once.
Spot Prizes were also awarded for Highest ‘J’ Word won by Rajiv Antao (Goa) for round 3 with JOGS fetching him 60 points, while with QINS (46 points), Bhushan Pradhan (Mumbai) got the accolades for the Highest ‘Q’ word for round 6 and the word, AZOIC in round 10 won 16-years-old Mumbaite, Samrath Singh Bhatia the Highest ‘Z’ Word prize that got him 85 points. Jacky Fernandes won the prize for the Highest Game Score (629) while Viji Ramachandran (Mumbai) got the Highest Word Score with REDATED that earned her 136 points.
