The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has condemned the BJP as well as the Congress for using religion to further their political goals.

Addressing reporters in Panaji, on Thursday, RGP supremo Manoj Parab said that while BJP plays the card of ‘Hindu khatrey mein hai’, Congress plays the card of ‘Kristanv khatrey mein hai’.

“This is a dangerous trend emerging in the State, which is likely to create a major rift between the Hindus and the Christians if it is not checked,” Parab opined.

He then chided both BJP and Congress for using religion in politics and quipped, “No religion is in danger, but in fact the political parties start using religion only when they find that their existence is in danger”.

“If such dirty communal politics of BJP and Congress is allowed to be continued, then a day will come when the Hindus and the Christians won’t see eye to eye,” Parab warned and urged the Goans not to fall prey to such communal politics.

Meanwhile, Parab refused to foretell about the outcome the party expects at the Lok Sabha polls in North and South Goa.

“There is no point in speculating on the result as the people have voted and it would be only wise to wait till June 4 to know the outcome,” Parab said.

MLA Viresh Borkar also condemned the dirty tactics of both BJP and Congress to garner votes.

“Both these national parties have used all tactics, including playing the religious card, to garner votes. But, we have confidence that the voters would not have fallen prey to such tactics,” Borkar informed.

Speaking on the expenditure incurred at the polls, RGP treasurer Ajay Kholkar informed that in total, they spent Rs 18 lakh both in North and South Goa.

“Of that, Rs 12 lakh alone was spent in advertising over the criminal cases,” Kholkar stated.

Kholkar then outlined that the RGP will now focus on the forthcoming ZP polls in 2025. “We are going to groom candidates for the ZP polls,” he added.

RGP North Goa president Gauresh Mandrekar and Shailesh Naik also spoke on the occasion.
