As per the new rates suggested by the All Goa Bakers and Confectioners Association, the traditional pao weighing 50 gm will now be available for `5 while a 30 gram variety will cost `3, effective from Friday.
Association President Peter Fernandes told The Goan on Thursday that traditional bakers aligned with the Association have decided to enforce the new rate from Friday as per the earlier decision. “There’s been confusion doing the rounds amongst bakers whether to enforce the new price from Friday or not following the statement made by the Association of Goan Bakers that the bakers will not effect a hike in the price of pao. We have cleared all confusion and doubts in the minds of the bakers and the new look 50 gram pao at a rate of `5 will be introduced in the market from Friday,” Peter told The Goan.
Association secretary Elaine Dias pointed out that the association had a meeting with bakers in Pernem, Bardez, Vasco, Sanvordem and other places, wherein the bakers have all decided to go for the pao weighing `3 and `5. “There’s no question of any re-think despite confusion created by the Association of Goan Bakers that they will not hike the price of pao,” Dias said.
