Members of Hindu organizations from different parts of the state descended near the Lohia Maidan on Sunday noon to condemn the pro-Pakistan slogans allegedly raised at Malbhat in the city here last week.

The protestors have warned they will protest across Goa coming Sunday if the police fail to book the persons who allegedly raised the pro-Pakistan slogans.

Carrying saffron flags, hundreds of protestors later marched to the Margao police station where they demanded action against the organizations which had raised the slogans. They also demanded that the police and other authorities remove all the flags erected in the police stations of Margao, Fatorda and Maina Curtorim to celebrate Eid, before the Diwali festival.

Led by the President of Shree Samarth Gad Temple, Rumdamol, Jayesh Naik, the protestors raised slogans against Pakistan and called for action against the pro-Pakistan elements.

A seven-member delegation led by Jayesh later called on Margao Police station in-charge, PI Ditendra Naik and pointed out that raising pro-Pakistan slogans is an offense raised by anti-national elements and should be dealt firmly by the police.

He further pointed out that flags erected on the occasion of Eid have not been removed by the organization till date. “We do not want to hurt the sentiments of any community, but these flags have not been removed till date”, he said, reminding that the Hindus will be celebrating Diwali in the next four days.

PI Ditendra told the delegation that the Margao police has already registered an offense in the complaint on raising of Pro-Pakistan slogans, adding that the police is investigating into the complaint.

On the issue of Eid flags, the Police officer pointed out that the police have not issued any permission for the erection of flags and banners. The PI later told the media that he would send the video footage showing the pro-Pakistan slogans to the Forensic lab to check whether the video was edited to include Pakistan slogans. “Investigations are underway. The complainants will be called to submit the evidence, including the video”, he added.

Hindu politicians warned
against supporting Didi

MARGAO: The president of Shree Swamy Samarth Gad Temple, Jayesh Naik has warned Hindu politicians and their political parties that the Hindu community will not forgive them if they go after TMC leader Mamata Banerjee.

Jayesh further resolved that the Hindu community will oppose NCP MLA Churchill Alemao for allegedly supporting certain elements at the Rumdamol Housing Board, saying the Hindus will work to defeat him in Benaulim and Navelim in the coming election.

“Goan Hindus will never support Mamata in Goa for the alleged harassment meted out to the Hindus and women in Bengal. We want the Goan Hindus and the political parties that they should not go after Mamata. This Hindu Samaj will never forgive you and we will not keep quiet”, he warned.

Cops outnumbered, overpowered

MARGAO: The authorities and the police were literally caught napping as the protest march by members of Hindu organization outnumbered and overpowered a small posse of policemen to assemble in front of the Malbhat Masjid to raise anti-Pakistan slogans.

That’s not all. The police as well as the Executive Magistrates led by Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar, Rosario Carvalho and Raghuraj Phaldesai also came under the scanner as the protestors took out a march from Margao to the communally sensitive Housing Board via Malbhat Masjid on Sunday evening after dispersing from the Margao police station.

Around 10 policemen tried to stop the protestors, numbering hundreds from heading towards the Masjid Road at Malbhat, but they were outnumbered and overpowered by the sheer numbers. Addressing the protestors, Jayesh Naik said he is standing at the very place outside the Masjid from where pro-Pakistan slogans were allegedly raised by members of an organization. “There were questions raised amongst Hindus whether we are in Goa or some other states when pro-Pakistan slogans are shouted from here. We just wanted to show this place to the people and the police. I also want to convey a message to Goan Muslims that the time has come to keep these outsiders aside’, he said, warning that no one should play with the sentiments of the Hindus.

The march later proceeded towards the Rumdamol Housing Board, but was stopped by Maina Curtorim police led by PI Sagar Ekoskar near the Maruti temple, before Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar allowed the march to proceed to the Shree Samarth Gad temple after Jayesh assured that the protestors would disperse peacefully from the temple.
