The Saligao panchayat has decided to stop the operation of a beef shop in the comunidade building in the village as it was found to be “illegally running” without obtaining approvals from the village panchayat.

According to Saligao Sarpanch Lucas Remedios, the owners have not obtained any permission/licence from the panchayat to carry out business in the village panchayat area, which is in violation of Section 71 of Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1994.

“As per Section 71 of Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1994 no place within the jurisdiction of a panchayat shall be used as a shop/renting house (commercial activity) whether permanently or temporarily, except under a licence granted or renewed by the panchayat,” Remedios said in a notice issued to Mrs Digama, the owner of the beef shop and the occupier of the beef shop in the comunidade building.

The notice further directs the owner/s not to use the place as a shop without obtaining permission/licence from the panchayat and if any permission/licence is obtained to submit the same to the panchayat within seven days of receiving the notice.

The sarpanch warned if the owner/s fails to comply with the directions then the panchayat will take action as per provision of the Goa Panchayat Raj Act 1994.

Sources informed that the beef shop was being allegedly run by one Lala Bepari without any permission.
