After a prolonged lull, #SaveMollem the movement against the three linear projects in protected forests in and around Mollem launched a flurry of activity, largely online, including one to acquire a global footprint by joining the global changemakers initiative launched by the Climate Investment Fund, the world’s largest climate fund.
“Save Mollem movement is proud to be a partner for this global changemakers initiative alongside leading organisations such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and African Development Bank, Thirst and others,” the collective said in a press kit released on Saturday.
Simultaneously, the collective driven by GenX greens in Goa has also launched an online initiative to formulate a ‘youth environment manifesto’ for Goa in view of the upcoming assembly elections due in February-March next year.
“The State elections in Goa are just a few months away and it is incredibly important that politicians from all parties listen to the concerns of the youth of the State,” the movement said while exhorting young Goans to involve themselves in their exercise to draft a ‘youth manifesto’ for Goa focusing on issues related to the environment.
#SaveMollem, is a collective of young Goans which spearheaded an agitation against the three linear projects -- double-tracking of the South Western Railway line, a private power transmission project and four-laning of the National Highway 4A -- since August last year.
Thousands of locals, especially youth, have been at the forefront trying to bring pressure on the political establishment to cancel the projects amidst a swelling movement built over fears that the projects will promote a coal transportation corridor.
