Another joint inspection of the scrapyards at the Nessai industrial estate in Sao Jose de Areal showed that three of the scrapyards are still to act on the directions of the health authorities to rid the yards of the dengue breeding sites.
Led by Velim MLA Cruz Silva, Salcete Mamlatdar Laxmikant Desai, health and IDC officials inspected the yards again, only to find that three out of the six scrapyards have not acted on the directions.
The Salcete Mamlatdar, who was drafted for the inspection by South Goa district Collector Jyoti Kumari, has told the MLA that he would send the village talathis to compile a detailed report on the extent of the problem.
The inspection team further noticed that the drains in the industrial estate lay clogged for want of desilting by the authorities.
The Velim MLA informed that of the six scrapyards, only three have complied with the directions of the health authorities.
“Of the remaining three mega scrapyards, one of them has cleared the scrap dumped on the setback area of the road. But, the site still offers a perfect breeding ground for the mosquitoes,” Cruz said.
He said the health team later inspected the industrial estate and is believed to have unearthed small yards housing waste, which also offers a perfect breeding ground for the mosquitoes.
