Screening of the film 'Goodbye Solo' at Literati

Interested in world cinema? Literati, a landmark bookstore in Candolim is screening a well acclaimed drama comedy 'Goodbye Solo' (USA 91 mins 2009) directed by Rahmin Bahrani at 7 pm today.

Goodbye Solo is the story of Solo, a kindhearted 34-year-old Senegalese taxi driver in North Carolina. He is hired by William, a tough 70-year-old white southerner, to drive him in two weeks time to a mountaintop from which William plans to jump to his death. Solo decides to charm his way into becoming William's friend, and this odd couple's unexpected friendship grows. Now all Solo has to do is change the old man's mind before the two weeks are up.

Ramin Bahrani is an American director and screenwriter and the professor of film directing at Columbia University's Graduate Film Program in New York City. Internationally acclaimed for his first two features, Man Push Cart and Chop Shop, Bahrani's films have won countless awards after premiering in festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Sundance, Toronto and Berlin, and appeared on numerous top ten lists.

He also wrote and directed the short subject Plastic Bag (narrated by Werner Herzog), which premiered as the opening night film in Venice 2009 where Bahrani also served on the Jury.

Goodbye Solo is his first film set and shot in his hometown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The film premiered in 2008 and immediately won the FIPRESCI

International Critics Prize for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival.
