Sulakshana Sawant, wife of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant Monday said she is indebted to the party leaders for shortlisting her name as one of the party’s women candidates for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat.
She, however, hastened to add while it is a matter of pride for the women of Goa that the BJP central leadership is exploring the possibility of fielding a woman candidate for South Goa, stressing the need to work for the party’s success irrespective of the party candidate.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a programme held at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao to celebrate International Women's Day on Monday, Sulakshana said the decision of the party’s central leadership to ask the Goa leadership to recommend names of women candidates is a matter of pride for the women of Goa.
“We will all work for the success of the party. This is a big responsibility for the women. I am happy and indebted to the party leadership for recommending my name. But whatever the final decision of the party leadership, we will all work together for the success of the party in the elections,” she said.
