Eager to take up processing of local resources, Shristhal Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) undertook a study tour of multi-processing centres (MPCs) at Pontemoll-Curchorem and Kotambi-Bicholim on Tuesday.

Shristhal BMC Chairman Vinay Tubki said the day-long study trip was of great interest to the Shristhal BMC members as they gained valuable information. “It has motivated our BMC members to start one or more self-employment generated MPCs using the local natural resources available in Shristhal village in Canacona taluka,” added Tubki.

The Shristhal BMC team comprised Tubki, Panchayat Secretary Sushant Lolayekar, BMC members Shirish Pai, Damodar Chari, Chanda Desai, Anjali Gaonkar, Anjali Vagonkar, Satyavan Naik Gaonkar, Tejas Naik Gaonkar and like-minded person’s like Navjyot Naik Gaunkar have visited two newly started Multi processing centres set up in Pale-Kotambi, Bicholim Taluka and Pantemoll-Curchorem.

The MPCs were established by Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) under the guidance of its Member Secretary Dr Pradip Sarmokadam.

The GSBB has started these MPCs in partnership with local village level communities and the support and cooperation of local women Self-Help Groups to start production using locally available bio-resources branding with GOVAN concepts.

During their tour at both MPCs in Curchorem and Bicholim, the Shristhal BMC team were shown the manufacturing equipment and infrastructure, as well as details of processing various bio-resources of their area.
