Propagating the concept of science among the student community, the Vidnyan Parishad, Goa is organising the 6th edition of the two-day Science Film Festival of India (SCI-FFI) on March 17 and 18 at the ESG complex in Panaji.
The Vigyan Prasar (DST) and Vidnyan Parishad have organized a workshop for journalists to encourage and understand the techniques of writing news reports on Science, Health and Environment on March 16, after which the Innovation exhibition will be inaugurated. The festival will consist of screening of science feature films at INOX, teachers’ workshop, discussions, interactive sessions with experts and scientists, a film making workshop and master class.
Films based on Science such as Tenet, The Last Mimzy, TikTikTik and Sphere will be screened at the festival. At the Innovation exhibition, the participants will learn and gain knowledge about the fascinating world of technology through the working models displayed.
“We are looking forward to a whole-hearted participation from 30 rural schools and colleges across Goa,” stated Suhas Godse, president, Vidnyan Parishad, Goa. The panel of experts will include Dr Nakul Prashar, director, Vigyan Prasar (DST), Jayant Sahasrabudhe, national organising secretary, Vijnana Bharati, Dr Arvind Ranade, scientist, F, Vigyan Prasar, Dr Nimish Kapoor, scientist, E, Vigyan Prasar, Dr L S Rathore, former DG IMD, Dr Ravindra Godbole, an eminent metallurgist and science educator and many others.
“Our main motto through this workshop is to inculcate a learning experience for all our participants and help them grow their interest in the field of Science. We really hope that through film screenings and various other initiatives organized, all our participants should gain valuable experience and know the diversity in the field of Science,” said Dr Sunil Kumar Singh, director CSIR-NIO.
A workshop for teachers as well as a workshop and master class on film making is also scheduled at Maquinez Palace. “We are striving more towards a good scientific temper and all these initiatives are towards achieving the same. Hence, we are conducting a film-making workshop in order to develop techniques,” says Nimish Kapoor, head of Science Films Division, Vigyan Prasar.
To conclude, the festival strives to achieve its aim as to celebrate the collaboration between science and cinema, to open up the minds of the participants to the world of cinema and also to appreciate the two-way influence that science and cinema have over one another.
