South Goa in top gear with 13 jeeps for field officers

MARGAO: The South Goa district Collectorate on Wednesday received as many as 13 jeeps for the field officers, besides chain saws for the police stations in the district to handle disasters.

Joint mamlatdars in district Collectors’ office, especially in the Salcete taluka office are still in short, with Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate assuring to work out a mechanism to tide over the shortage. District Collector (South) Ruchika Katyal said the staff shortage, especially in respect of Joint Mamlatdars will be taken care of shortly as the matter has already been brought to the notice of government for redressal.

The Revenue Minister along  with Revenue Secretary Sanjay Kumar descended on the South Goa district Collectorate building on Wednesday evening to launch 13 vehicles for revenue officers of the district, besides 20 chain saws for deployment at the police stations located in South district, in the presence of Ruchika Katyal, district police chief Pankaj Kumar Singh and other senior district officials, Additional collectors Surendra Naik and Ajit Panchwadkar, deputy Collectors Jyoti Kumari and Joao Fernandes.

In her brief address, the Revenue Minster said the vehicles for the revenue officials and chain saws for the police stations will help enhance the capacity of the field officials and the disaster management personnel. “The vehicles will help the field officers to move quickly and will also ease pressure on other departments to make available their vehicles to the revenue officials”, she said.

She said the revenue officials will now have no excuses to offer that they cannot go to isolated and faraway places for want of vehicles. “This will go a long way in enhancing our efficiency”, she added.

On the shortage of Joint mamlatdars that has crippled work on the disposal of mundcarial and tenancy cases, the minister said the government is working out a mechanism to tide over the problem. “There is a shortage of staff and the govt is working out a mechanism to resolve the issue”, she added.

Collector Katyal informed that the district administration has already brought the staff shortage to notice of the government, adding that the administration has been assured that the government will take care of the issue.

On the upkeep and maintenance of the South Goa Collectorate building, Monserrate said the PWD has taken up the work of maintenance after her department had cleared the proposal after she became a Minster. “There may be some issued left out on matters such as censors in the washrooms, which are being used by many people and are costly””, she said, adding the maintenance of the building will fall I place.

Collector Katyal said the maintenance of a building is an continuous process, adding that the PWD has prepared the estimates for the maintenance and have started the work. “Be rest assured, the maintenance will be taken care of by the administration”, the Collector told the media.
