Sanitation drives, well surveys among measures planned to curb spread
The South Goa District Co-ordination Committee for Control of Vector Borne Diseases which met at the Collectorate today decided to strengthen inter departmental collaboration to keep a check on malaria and dengue in the seven Talukas of South Goa.
The meeting which was chaired by Brucelee Jesus Nazario Savio Quadros Deputy Collector (Revenue) undertook a review of the reports from the respective Urban Health Centres and Primary Health Centres on steps taken to keep a check on the vector borne diseases in South Goa.
Various proposals were discussed so as to get better compliance and co-operation from the Village Panchayats, Municipal Councils and line Departments for the effective control of vector borne diseases by the respective Health Centres.
Proper boards displaying the Licences & NOCs at the construction sites, need for better sanitation at GIDC Industrial Estates, Garbage Management Committees assistance for source reduction drives, need for digitisation of Health Cards issued to labourers at construction sites, regular visits to rented accommodation provided to migrant labourers, increase in the number of wells registered under WRD scheme Nitoll Goem Nitoll Baim and survey of abandoned wells, activation of the Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) in all Village Panchayats under the newly established Department of Drinking Water and forming teams of elected representatives in Village Panchayats & Municipal Councils to help in the inspection of High Risk Areas were some of the recommendations listed at the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Dr Kalpana Mahatme Dy Director NVBDCP DHS, Dr Baptiste Mascarenhas Health Officer UHC Margao and Member Secretary DCC, Lorna Fernandes Secretary GOACAN, Clarence D'mello BDO Dy Director Panchayats Office, Dr Benedita Dias Health Officer PHC Balli and Nadia A Shekoli Deputy Director Urban Development among others.
