Sporting Clube de Goa signed off their GFA U-18 group stage in style as they beat Ave Maria 5-1 at Curtorim grounds on Monday.
Shubert Joanes Pereira netted a hat-trick while Peryson Fernandes scored a brace. Aleston Camotio scored the consolation goal for Ave Maria who were reduced to nine men in the second half.
Sporting attacked early in the match as Shubert and Peryson linked up well in the front. Shubert got his first goal in the 16th minute with a lofted right footer managed to send the ball perfectly into the goal.
Next, Preyson (27’) got himself on the score sheet with a long range shot from the right, beating the Ave Maria custodian to make it 2-0 for Sporting before the half hour mark.
Ave Maria lads fought back bravely and managed to pull one back in the 33rd minute through Aleston. Their joy was short-lived as in less than five minutes, Preyson (37’) headed in his second goal of the match once again providing some breathing space for Sporting.
The score stayed 3-1 at the end of first half. In the second half, Ave Maria players tried to put in everything they had with some good attacking moves, but in the 50th minute Shubert pretty much sealed the match for Sporting with a fantastic right footer from inside the box. Within 2 minutes, Shubert managed to complete his hat-trick with a close range tap-in off a Peryson cross from the right.
With this win, Sporting have collected 18 points from 7 matches. The young Flaming Oranje qualify for the play off along with Salgaocar FC who are tied up with the same points but edge Sporting marginally on head to head in spite of having a lesser goal-difference.
