Even as sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted a raid at the Konkan railway police station late Monday night to verify information on alleged beef-related demand, a consignment of meat, believed to be beef, arrived at the Margao railway station on Tuesday noon.
The presence of the meat, which was found abandoned at the Margao railway station, triggered tension after some members of Hindu right-wing organisations directed their ire at a person after he was found close to the consignment. Margao police personnel later arrived at the scene, took the person into custody as a precautionary measure, and later released him.
Incidentally, Rashtriya president of Kesariya Hindu Vahini Rajeev Jha told the media that vested interests, including the beef mafia, had hatched a conspiracy to implicate Konkan railway police station PI Sunil Gudlar in the case to shunt him out of the Konkan railway station. “When there is action, there is also a reaction. The police officer who was taking action on the illegal import of beef into the state has been implicated by the beef mafia. Every time I personally informed PI Gudlar about the arrival of beef by train, the police officer used to take action. He was successful in intercepting the beef consignment at the Margao railway station; it is evident that the beef mafia had hatched a conspiracy to frame PI Gudlar to shunt him out of the Konkan railway station police,” he said.
He added: “Our system is loose and is not working properly. If there were strict actions, this would not have arisen. If you can see, beef is being brought to Margao under the guise of mutton consignment. This only goes to show that the beef mafia is active in illegally importing beef into Goa.”
He further told the media that members of the Hindu organisations had informed the police as well as officials of the Animal Husbandry department about the beef consignment that had been abandoned at the Margao railway station.
