Over 75 Tibetans from various groups were detained by Goa Police in Margao and Vasco for gathering in protest against the visiting Chinese premier between October 14 and 16. The leaders disclosed that these groups worked individually and did not coordinate their actions.
Speaking at Panaji, Free Tibet Movement leader Tenzin Tsundue informed that he arrived in Goa on October 13 and travelled on foot in the night.
“For around 20 hours, I hid alone in the grass at a swampy spot near one of the venues of the summit and on October 15 I stepped out with my banner and shouted slogans when I saw a motorcade approaching. My only aim was to register a verbal and symbolic protest,” Tsundue stated.
Tsundue informed that he is a Tibetan born in India. “All my 23 years of activism are filled with the dream that one day I will return to my own country,” he said.
Meanwhile, he also praised the professionalism of Goa police ‘who did everything according to law and procedure’ after detaining him.
Tenzin Tselha, national director of Students For Free Tibet (India) held Jinping responsible for the death of two Tibetan nuns in September. The nuns ended their lives after Chinese government began demolition of the Larun Gar Buddhist Academy at Serthar, Tibet. The two Tibetan leaders urged India to review it’s foreign policy vis-a-vis Tibet and spoke about how the economic might of China has blinded it to the plight of people who wish to be independent to protect their identity.
“India’s Tibet policy continues to be ad-hoc no matter which party is in power at
the Centre. It is high time to address Tibet issue as it is one of the main contentions between India and China,” Tsundue rued.
