Velankanni–Vasco Express theft: Karnataka man arrested

PANAJI: A 24-year-old man from Karnataka has been arrested by Vasco Railway Police for allegedly stealing a handbag from a woman travelling on a moving train from Hubballi to Vasco on April 23.

The complainant, 69-year-old Afroza Begum Hukkeri, a resident of New Vaddem, Vasco, reported that the theft took place while she was travelling in the Velankanni–Vasco Express, when an unidentified person allegedly stole her handbag.

The stolen bag contained a mobile phone valued at Rs 7,000 and a pair of silver anklets weighing around 250 grams, worth Rs 60,000.

Based on her complaint, Vasco Railway Police registered an offence under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Following an investigation, the accused, identified as Ambrish Beggar, a labourer from Bagalkot district in Karnataka, was apprehended yesterday evening.

The accused is currently in police custody, and further investigation is underway.
